Visit of the gardens and the vineyards of the Bellavista hill
In the morainal vale of Franciacorta lie the 107 different Bellavista ‘terroirs', dispersed over one hundred and ninety hectares of vineyard located in ten different councils of this small region given over to the creation of sparkling wines. A beautiful, ancient corner of the region of Lombardy to the south of Lake Iseo, couched between the alpine foothills of Bergamo and the Po Valley and resting on soil and rock deposits accumulated over the millennia by the ice flows.
The Bellavista project began in 1977 in Erbusco when Vittorio Moretti decided that more had to be made of those first historic family vineyards. Such was the quality of the wines produced in this region that Bellavista could only expand by selecting those Franciacorta vineyards with the best orientation along with the best character and development potential.
Now these precious vineyards are trained and nursed according to a philosophy that combines ancient traditions and innovative concepts. Each year they produce over one hundred wine selections which go to form the historic Cuvées, a true expression of the inherent personality of this land, revealing the subtlest nuances of character and personality. Through a vine growing culture, which respectfully embodies the specific natural environment and its rhythms, comes this great adventure, the quest for a style of wine making that aims to introduce a new perspective to the art of vinification in Franciacorta. Here lies the secret of the complexity, balance and style of Bellavista. A process we wish to share with Grandi Giardini Italiani in the creation of an itinerary inspired by a culture of landscape. A journey that takes us up to the first historic vineyards on the Bellavista hills through the Sculpture Park and the evocative Leone Vineyard of the L'Albereta Resort.
This itinerary is also a way of experiencing the history of Franciacorta: from the Uccellanda terroir through to the windy Favento vineyards and up to the perfect symmetries of the Villa Lechi "brede" (lawns) and then on to the Ss. Annunciata Convent, a spiritual site, which also preserves an ancient vineyard, the first historical evidence of this land's true vocation.
